About Glen Eira City Choir

Founded in 1946 as the City of Caulfield Philharmonic Choir, this year the Glen Eira City Choir celebrates 80 years of striving for choral excellence. Read  a short history of  the choir here; for more detail a decade by decade history is available to read  here. .
We are a voluntary, non-profit organisation run by a committee of management elected each year. We are a member of the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA).
Our SATB choir comprises around 40 male and female voices. No audition is necessary, but it is an advantage to be able to read music. We sing in 4 parts (and for some music 8 parts) so it is also an advantage to be able to hold your own part.
Our choir strives for excellence and engages professional soloists for major choral works.  In 2025 we performed two concert programs. The mid-year concert was Music from the BrItish Isles , and we were once again delighted to join with Bendigo Chorale, performing in Bendigo and Brighton.  Our end of year concert was Celebrating Christmas with Music from America,  with guest performers Choral Studio’s Harmony Children’s Choir. In May 2026  we performed Mozart’s Requiem with Bendigo Chorale in  Bendigo and Brighton.  Our Christmas Concert will be held in early December. More information about past and upcoming concerts is here.
For many years we rehearsed in Balaclava in the City of Glen Eira. In 2020 the choir moved to a more suitable rehearsal and concert space at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Brighton. More  information about rehearsals is  here. New members are always welcome, especially those who enjoy learning and performing choral music.   We encourage you to come along for a rehearsal and try us out (from June 15) . Please get in touch to  let us know you are coming, or if you have any questions.

Choir Funding

Glen Eira City Choir is a voluntary, non-profit organisation run by a committee of management elected each year. We do not receive subsidies from government and are reliant on our Choir members paying fees towards weekly rehearsal costs (conductor, accompanist, venue hire and music) and concert operating costs (conductor, accompanists, soloists and instrumentalists).  Additional costs associated with concerts are venue hire, copyright fees and printing.  We wish to keep the cost of tickets for our loyal audience as low as possible and to enable as many people as possible to enjoy beautiful music, hence we rely on sponsorship, donations and bequests to supplement our funds. Any financial assistance you are able to give will be gratefully received. Donations $2 and over are tax deductible.
