Jane Elton Brown - Conductor
Since her appointment as conductor in 2001, Jane has steered the choir through its sixth decade of choral excellence. Fiercely determined in her passion for all styles of music, over the past 8 years Jane has brought about a new level of commitment and professionalism and has led the choir in performances of The Creation (Haydn), Elijah (Mendelssohn), Requiem (Faure), Requiem (Mozart), Messiah (Handel), Gloria (Vivaldi), Mass in C (Schubert), Mass in C (Beethoven), and in more contemporary works including songs from well known musicals, works from Gilbert and Sullivan and songs from around the world.
An experienced examiner in music, speaker at conferences and seminars, and adjudicator at eisteddfods, Jane is the founding music director of the Star Chorale (formerly MLC Chorale). Previously Music Director at Methodist Ladies College for 29 years, Jane is currently the Music Director at The MacRobertson Girls’ High School.
Joan Shewan - Accompanist
An accompanist since the age of 11, Joan gained her Bachelor of Music at Melbourne University. A former student of Roy Shepherd, she now teaches piano at Methodist Ladies College.
She is an experienced accompanist, including having played for the National Theatre Opera School, ballet classes and the Camberwell Chorale, as well as undertaking an extensive overseas trip to the United Kingdom and Europe. Presently Joan is the accompanist for the MSC Junior Schoo Chor, the Star Chorale, and the Glen Eira City Choir. The Choir is grateful to Joan for her support over the last 25 years.
