Jane Elton Brown has been conductor of the Glen Eira City Choir for the past 19 years and has brought a new level of commitment and professionalism to the choir.

An experienced examiner in music, speaker at conferences and seminars, and adjudicator at eisteddfods, Jane is the founding music director of the Star Chorale. After graduating B.Mus and Dip. Ed, Jane was awarded the degree of Master of Music from Melbourne University.

Jane has held the position of Director of Music at two of Melbourne’s most prestigious girls’ schools, Methodist Ladies College for 29 years and more recently at The MacRobertson Girls’ High School. Jane conducted choristers and instrumentalists from both these schools in successful performance tours in England and Scotland. Back home, Jane conducted performances by the MLC choir of music by Australian composers and at concerts with Johnny Farnham and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

As well as taking great satisfaction with the development of the Glen Eira City Choir and its performances, recent highlights have seen her conducting the Star Chorale in a performance of Brahm’s great work A German Requiem in the Melbourne Recital Centre in 2012, and Verdi’s  Requiem in the Melbourne Town Hall in 2015, the latter with the Star Chorale and Zelman Symphony. Currently Jane teaches piano and enjoys conducting for choral/orchestral performances. For her service to music, Jane was awarded the honour of OAM in 2011.
