Early in 1946, the Caulfield City Choir was established with Mr David Plummer as the inaugural Music Director, a position he held for the next 29 years. Through his enduring efforts, a solid choral foundation was formed from which the choir grew and expanded, becoming one of Melbourne’s most respected amateur choral groups. With a proud history, the choir measures its success on a number of criteria including musicality, technique and generosity of performance. Presenting a number of self funded concerts each year covering a wide and varied repertoire, the choir also provides support for the Council’s Anzac Day Celebrations, and has participated at the Council’s Carols by Candlelight. Over the years, choir members have sung at the Myer Music Bowl; at such performances as the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games; "Victoria Victoria" (the 150th celebrations at the Exhibition building); "Australia Australia", for the Bicentenary celebrations; the "Berlioz" Spectacular, celebrating the Bicentenary of the French Revolution at the National Tennis Centre; Channel 9 "Carols by Candlelight" and similar.
Each year the choir performs three concerts encompass a wide and varied vocal repertoire, from classical to modern and just about everything in between. A least one concert features a major choral work.
